First, let us start by offering a general overview of counselling and how it can be helpful.

The Counselling Service provides a professional, confidential and free counselling service to students. A range of services are offered by the staff in the Counselling Service which assist students to make the most of their experiences, especially their university experience.

The counselling staff understand that during time spent at QUT, there may be times when people may face adjustment problems, loss and grief, depression or anxiety, sexuality and identity issues, academic difficulties, and cultural and racial concerns. Making those times less stressful is a major goal of the counselling staff at QUT.

Our staff are committed to assisting students find solutions to a range of problems. Individual counselling is offered to students for academic and personal problems, and group programs are run in the areas of stress management, motivation, self esteem, time management, exam skills and dealing with exam stress.

QUT staff members can attend in emergencies and to source information, self help material and advice about other sources of assistance. Except in emergencies, QUT staff will be limited to one session per year at Counselling Services. QUT staff may choose to access QUT's Employee Assistance Scheme.

Welfare Assistance

The Counselling Service also provides a free, confidential welfare service. Welfare Officers are available to assist students with issues such as Centrelink difficulties, budgeting, or tenancy issues. We can also help you access information about resources in the community which may be able to further assist you. Please contact Counselling Services to make an appointment to see a Welfare Officer.
